Here I am, peacefully working on my story as a way to calm down before bed when it hits.

A sudden lapse in confidence.

You see, my story is a Chrono Trigger fanfic and I’m bringing in a mostly new cast of characters. For the most part, it’s a cakewalk. All but one of my original characters has little relation to the characters of Chrono Trigger. And of all the characters I could choose to have this character related to, I would have to choose Magus.

The idea? In the Dark Ages, Magus comes across a little boy who turns out to be the son of an alternative version of himself. He later uncovers where the little guy is from and that the dimension was basically destroyed, al la the Dead Sea in Chrono Cross. The kid somehow ended up in the “real” dimension where he was discovered.

The third chapter, which I only have a teaser up for right now, is where the kid - who’s now an adult - makes his first appearance. His history is mentioned in a nutshell, but I was planning on exploring it in more detail later.

At first I thought it would be safe making the young man not related to “our” Magus, but rather a version of him that remained in the Kingdom of Zeal until adulthood. But no, I began to get nervous. Afterall, next to Schala, Magus is probably one of the most popular characters in the game.

And lo - I go looking for some fellow Chrono Trigger fans to bounce my ideas off from. Now, based on the two opinions I’ve received so far (plus the results of a poll which died a horrible death due to Gaia’s omnipresent bugs) I’m now feeling extra nervous.

I really need to hunt down someone to chat with who knows Chrono Trigger and the fandom well, who wouldn’t mind being a sounding post for my crap. *sighs*
